We Care for the Whole Patient

You are more than just the sum of your reproductive organs. Who you are, what your experiences are, and your ideals and goals for the future shape the way you, your partner, and your family choose to proceed with fertility therapy. There is no one-size-fits-all formula for achieving pregnancy. Some people are comfortable with aggressive infertility treatment, and others are not. Armed with information about your reproductive history, medical history, family history, and laboratory testing, we formulate an infertility treatment plan that is right for you. This plan can change as other information is received or as you alter your goals. It depends on you. We are here to help facilitate your plan and adapt it as needed.

Knowledge is Power

Education is a big part of your infertility treatment. The more you understand, the more you are in control of your care and outcome. Our staff prides itself on helping you understand your options, test results, and treatment protocols. We have developed many patient education tools to assist you with decision-making and to help guide you through your therapy.

Safety First

A very important part of our program is keeping you from harm. We go to great lengths to make sure that you are not hurt or made sick, and that any children you might bear are not harmed as a result of overly aggressive fertility therapy. With your safety in mind, the Reproductive Health Center considers a number of important points:

1. We work to prevent multiple gestations;

  • We believe multiple gestations (twins or more) are an adverse outcome of infertility treatment. Here are a few reasons why:
    • Over 50% of twin pregnancies result in premature birth, while 90% of triplets and all quadruplets are born prematurely.
    • When compared to a single gestation, twin and triplet pregnancies are seven and 20 times more likely, respectively, to result in a death within the first month.
    • Over 25% of babies weighing less than 1,000 grams (2 lbs., 3 oz.) have lifelong disabilities.
  • Patients receiving treatment with fertility drugs are carefully monitored at our Tucson clinic. If a patient over-responds, we will cancel the cycle.
  • We limit the number of embryos transferred during IVF. We strictly follow the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and Society of Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) guidelines for numbers of embryos transferred

2. We use clinically proven, FDA-approved fertility drugs:

  • We do not use outdated medication regimens or fertility drugs in our Tucson facility that are not available in the United States.
  • Injectable fertility drugs are administered in our Tucson clinic with small needles in subcutaneous injections only, as patient comfort is our goal.
  • Patient compliance and comfort help determine the success of a treatment therapy, therefore, we use the most current, updated, proven treatment regimens available.
  • And finally, since these medications, even with the proper monitoring can make a patient very ill, we use the least amount of fertility medication possible to give the patient the best chance of conception. Treatment protocols are entirely dependent on the individual's history and laboratory testing.

3. We practice "high-tech" infertility treatment, assisting couples in Yuma, Nogales, and throughout Arizona and Northern Mexico. Our clinic houses a nationally certified embryology laboratory, and we are qualified to provide anesthesia care:

  • Our IVF lab is nationally certified by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations and our laboratory director is a board certified High Complexity Laboratory Director (HCLD).
  • We use qualified anesthesia care. All of our patients undergoing IVF have a board-certified or board-eligible anesthesiologist caring for them during the entire procedure to make sure that they are comfortable and secure. At no time does the physician performing the oocyte (egg) retrieval also perform the anesthesia nor does the nurse oversee anesthesia. Should a problem or emergency arise, we are minutes from a qualified operating room.

We feel that we offer our patients the best of both worlds by combining the comfortable, caring atmosphere of our private office with a state of the art laboratory facility all in one location. Our goal is to help you create a family in a supportive and safe environment.
