What Are My Options for Fertility Testing in Tucson?

Parenting is a major decision. After consideration and planning you and your partner have decided to conceive a child. In some cases, this can be met with difficulty. In order to provide proper treatment, Dr. Scot Hutchison of Reproductive Health Center will perform fertility tests.

During your initial consultation, your concerns will be addressed and your health history will be documented. Age, health history, and history of attempted conception will be used to evaluate fertility risks. Dr. Hutchison and his staff will help you develop a treatment plan that is best for your individual needs. As part of the process, patients often undergo fertility testing to get to the root of your fertility concerns.

Fertility Tests for Women

Women being tested for fertility can undergo various tests to determine why there is difficulty conceiving.

  • 3-Day Blood Tests: These forms of tests are performed between the second to fifth day of the menstrual cycle. Hormone levels will be evaluated, including FSH, Estradiol, LH, Prolactin, TSH, and Rubella IgG.
  • Hysterosalpingogram (HSG): This method of fertility testing is a X-ray dye test used to detect blockage or anomalies in the uterus and fallopian tubes.
  • Female Physical Exam: A general health exam and comprehensive pelvic exam, including a transvaginal ultrasound of the uterus and ovaries and cervical cultures. A pap smear and breast exam may be performed if annual testing has not been performed by your gynecologist.
  • Transvaginal ultrasound: A pelvic ultrasound provides a detailed look at the reproductive organs and indicate any presence of uterine fibroids or other abnormalities.
  • Carrier Status of Cystic Fibrosis
  • Diagnostic Tests for Disease: Disease such as HIV, Hepatitis, and Gonorrhea are associated with fertility concerns.

Fertility Tests for Men

Men undergoing testing for fertility concerns may experience one or more of the fertility tests available to men.

  • Semen Analysis: After 48 hours of abstinence, a sample of the male’s semen is collected using a special sample collection kit. If the test indicates male factor infertility, the male should consult a urologist to ensure the scrotum, penis, and testes are normal. In some cases cultures will be taken along with blood testing to eliminate infection or hormonal problems.
  • Carrier Status of Cystic Fibrosis
  • Diagnostic Tests for Disease: Disease such as HIV, Hepatitis, and Gonorrhea are associated with fertility concerns.

Other diagnostic testing for fertility testing in Tucson may be recommended based on the medical history of the patient and her partner. Any testing performed is used to indicate the reason for difficulty conceiving. After the cause is addressed, Dr. Hutchison will be able to discuss options for fertility and conception, such as intrauterine insemination, in vitro fertilization, and ovulation induction.
